If you’re looking for a stylish new jumper to see you through autumn and beyond, trust Marks and Spencer. The high street brand is stocked with contemporary but cosy options in a range of colours and styles, from classic roll necks to cold shoulder designs. There are also faux-fur options to help you fend off the chill.
One of our favourite picks is this ribbed cardigan (pictured), priced at PS85. It’s a regular fit and has a classic crew neckline, plus fine ribbing at the cuffs and hem for added texture. The fabric is made from super-soft cashmere-like yarn, which is sustainable and ethically sourced. It comes in 10 colours, ranging from neutrals like black, mole and khaki to more bold shades of fuchsia pink, mint green and lilac.
Our experts loved this piece, which is a bit more pricey than John Smedley’s version (currently costing PS165) but was judged to be “just as good”. The knitwear specialists liked the quality of the yarn, with one noting it was slightly fluffier than a Smedley – though that’s likely due to the lower micron count in this M&S option, which is at 19.5 microns.
Another of our favourites is this striped zip-up style, which is perfect for layering over a high-neck top. It’s designed in a relaxed fit and has a neat crew neckline with stylish tortoiseshell buttons on the front placket. It’s also a more casual length than the M&S version, coming to just below the hip, and has contrast ribbing at the cuffs, hem and dropped shoulders for an extra touch of detail.
